Get Lean with NJMEP

New Jersey Manufacturing Extension Program, Inc. (NJMEP) is a not-for-profit company that works with New Jersey’s small to mid-sized manufacturers to help them become more efficient, profitable and globally competitive. Our cost saving strategies and growth initiatives such as Lean Manufacturing and business process improvements based on 5S, Kanban, Kaizen, and Six Sigma have helped hundreds of companies save an average of 20% of the time, effort, or costs associated with their business and manufacturing processes. What’s more, NJMEP receives funding from the federal government. This funding enables NJMEP to set fees charged for implementation assistance below market rates. NJMEP operates as a private sector entity and draws its staff from the business community. NJMEP President, Bob Loderstedt, captures it best when he says, "We have a public sector mission accomplished with a private sector mind set."

NJMEP Field Agents, our business community liasons, play an important role in assessing your needs and determining a course of action. Located throughout the state, the agents have worked their entire career in manufacturing, and several have owned their own businesses. Their job is to identify opportunities to improve business, or to assist you in implementing solutions you’ve already identified.

The Process

Once a project is identified, NJMEP and its team of experts implement a time-proven, measurable solution. We estimate the impact a given project will have on your organization and when it's complete we survey our client to evaluate the success of the program. Our involvement does not end there. NJMEP provides you with all the tools, and training to ensure continuous growth and renewal for years to come.

The History

Dr. Saul Fenster, then President of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), Dr. Donald Sebastian, Executive Director of the Center for Manufacturing Systems (CMS) at NJIT, and Dr. Jay Brandinger, then Director of the Commission on Science and Technology, worked for close to a decade to gain the United States Department of Commerce's approval to establish a Manufacturing Extension Program in New Jersey. As a result of their efforts, the New Jersey Manufacturing Extension Program, Inc. (NJMEP) began its operations in January 1996. It is one of 59 MEPs across the United States that is working to support the manufacturing sector by delivering technical and business assistance resulting in substantial savings and growth. In one year alone, manufacturing enterprises served by MEP’s report:

    • Increased revenues
    • Inventory savings
    • Labor and material savings
    • Increase in capital investment

MEP’s are fast becoming a progressive force for smaller manufacturers in the United States. NJMEP can help you achieve the success you deserve. Click here to contact us, or call (973) 998-9801.
