Adaptive Design Labs
Two years ago, Adaptive Design Labs, Inc. learned about the New Jersey Manufacturing Extension Program (NJMEP) through a newspaper article.
"What NJMEP had offered small business was exactly the type of assistance we were looking for," says Alisha Baldassano, Vice President of the West Orange based manufacturer of customized adaptive furniture for the disabled. "One of the major difficulties of operating a small business is that you end up doing everything. You don't have time to investigate new technology."
Shortly after contacting MEP, it wasn't long before a team of professionals conducted a site visit at the seven year old company, in order to assess its technical needs.
"It was a terrific experience," says Baldassano, who operates the company with her husband, Ron, who serves as president. "They helped us put in place procedures that enhanced manufacturing techniques and increased productivity, including computer aided design - without affecting the quality of our products."
These products include custom seating systems and positioning accessories that ADL sells to distributors, which markets to such facilities as hospitals and nursing homes. Today, ADL continues to have an ongoing relationship with MEP. "We are able to call on them whenever we need their assistance," Baldassano adds.
