Meto Corporation’s Handling of Possible Y2K Glitches

Meto Corporation, in Allendale, New Jersey, established in 1969, employs 18 people and has 3.5 million dollars in annual sales. They manufacturer blending and material handling equipment for the pharmaceutical industry.

New Jersey Manufacturing Extension Program, Inc. (NJMEP) contacted Meto Corporation to assist them in confirming that their mission critical manufacturing equipment was Y2K compliant. A representative from Bergen Community College trained and collected an inventory of the items in Meto Corporation’s mission critical system. Meto Corporation decided that their LAN system was their most critical system, because they use it every day and it would affect Auto CAD and their inventory and accounting system. Approximately 100 items were checked.

Through the investigation, the operating system was found not to be Y2K compliant. Meto Corporation updated the software for their operating system, and as a result, they did not have any Y2K malfunctions.

“ The largest impact is the $5,000 cost avoidance associated with down time, if the system malfunctioned”, stated Russell Bouwense, General Manager for Meto Corporation.
