Specialty Molding Corporation

Specialty Molding Corporation, located in Lincoln Park, is a manufacturer of custom plastic molds for a variety of industries.

Specialty Molding needed a low cost prototype mold of a completely new design. They were seeking a method to avoid the time and expense in designing, developing and implementing the new mold that then produces the molded product.

Typically, the mold would be made of steel and the manufacturing process takes about 16 weeks to complete. This process is expensive and leaves little room for modifications. Any changes require a new design and manufacturing procedure.

The NJMEP was able to develop a machined prototype for Specialty Molding by using a design from the companies CAD File. The expense to the client for the project was approximately ten percent of what the overall cost to produce the mold would have been. This was not only much more cost effective but was produced in one-tenth of the time.

As a direct result of NJMEP's manufacturing of twelve prototypes, Specialty Molding was able to produce the mold faster, much more cost effectively and were able to make significant changes to their final design.
