Throughout the state we are engaging leaders to align and amplify the efforts focused on building up our manufacturing base and making New Jersey the best manufacturing environment in the world.
NJMEP has helped clients realize more than $3.5 billion in value since 2000. We also helped our clients create or retain more than 30,000 paying manufacturing jobs. These results were tallied from independent surveys performed after each of our engagements. It’s one of the ways the NJMEP is different: We measure our success based on the results our clients see from engaging us.
My role at NJMEP is to support all 10,552 Manufacturers (including Life Sciences) and their 360,000 employees in our State. I ‘grew up’ in the Manufacturing/STEM Industry and it provided well for me, my family, and for those many people who worked with me. This industry creates the pathway to a career that allows one to grow and to earn. It is also one that has been forgotten in New Jersey and the USA for all too long, but with the newly formed NJ Legislative Caucus for Manufacturing led by Senator Bob Gordon, there is an interest and a platform that has not existed for many years. Let’s not lose this focus. We need it in New Jersey.
Keep in mind that by the most-recent information (from the National Association of Manufacturers) on average annual compensation wages for New Jersey is over $90,000. This becomes a very positive pathway for our young adults and under-employed to provide realistic opportunities for our citizens. It also supplies support for companies looking for highly educated (college & technical) individuals to grow their businesses. In doing so, this assists us in stemming the concern regarding ‘out-migration’ of Millennials, Companies, and with increased Income Tax, make New Jersey more affordable to Seniors as well. Pathways are important. I believe this industry is a pathway to a better life.
As the manufacturing sector continues to evolve and change, I am continually impressed by the ingenuity and resilience of the manufacturers in our State. Many have undergone efforts to expand their facilities and operations while countless more have adopted new technologies or processes to help not only improve efficiencies but also prepare them for the industry of the future. Throughout these changes almost every company we encounter remains excited about the opportunities for growth and the chance to grow manufacturing in New Jersey.
New Jersey manufacturing has a bright future. We have strong manufacturers competing effectively on the world stage. Dedicated professionals provide the support and innovations necessary to maintain our leadership position. This is an industry I grew up in and truly believe in. Let’s continue to grow New Jersey Manufacturing and the career pathways associated with it.
