NJMEP Board Member Donald H. Sebastian Named Innovation Healthcare Hero by NJBIZ

The New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII), an NJIT corporation that applies the intellectual and technological resources of the state’s science and technology university to challenges identified by industry partners, has announced that Dr. Donald H. Sebastian of Randolph has been named an Innovation Hero as part of the 2015 NJBIZ Healthcare Heroes Awards.

The 2015 NJBIZ Healthcare Heroes awards program honors individuals and organizations that are making a significant impact on the quality of healthcare in New Jersey. An independent panel of judges evaluated the nominations and selected finalists in nine categories that included Innovation Hero, Hospital of the Year and Physician of the Year, among others. To be eligible nominees must work in New Jersey and organization nominees must have offices in New Jersey. The winner in each category was announced during an awards ceremony earlier today.

Dr. Donald H. Sebastian is the President & CEO of the New Jersey Innovation Institute, an NJIT Corporation. Dr. Sebastian assumed this role after fifteen years leading research at NJIT during which time the R&D enterprise grew to over a $110M, placing NJIT fifth among all polytechnic universities in the country, and fourth among all universities in patent productivity.  He led the effort to form a statewide NJ Health Information Technology Extension Center that leads the nation in physicians certified as meaningful users of electronic healthcare record systems, and is a member of the Board of the Greater Newark Healthcare Coalition the R&D Council of NJ, the Polymer Processing Institute, Inc., and the NJ Manufacturing Extension Program.

Dr. Sebastian received his Bachelor of Engineering at Stevens, graduating as valedictorian of the class of 1974, followed by Masters of Engineering in 1975, and the Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in 1977. He resides in Randolph, NJ with his wife Catherine, daughters Caitlyn and Diana, and son Christopher.
