Tektite Industries manufactures and distributes LED flashlights, LED replacement bulbs, HID lights, dive lights, strobes, signaling lights and knives serving customers demanding the most rugged products in the Outdoor, Industrial, Public Safety and Military markets. The company was founded 1990 by its current ownership.
Tektite molds its plastic parts, assembles its electronics, and machines and stamps its own metal parts. The company is committed to using US products whenever available.
In order to remain competitive in its market Tektite needed to increase its productivity. The production bottleneck was identified as its CNC operation. To change that, employees needed to improve their skills when working on the equipment.
NJMEP provided Tektite with a solution to their problem— Gary Slawik, an NJMEP resource, with expertise in CNC machining.
Slawik conducted an eight-hour consultative/training session to address the CNC issues that were related to programming. He then delivered one-on-one training to the employees that worked with the CNC machinery. Slawik helped them improve the operation of their CNC machine and optimize their productivity.
Tektite President, Scott Mele reported, “The personal training provided was exactly what we needed to improve our production rate on the CNC machine. As a result, production is up 10%.” Mele’s NIST survey indicated that the knowledge and training provided by NJMEP improved the CNC operations and helped Tektite retain $7,000 in sales that otherwise would have been lost.
