Triad Tool Company is a vertically integrated contract manufacturer specializing in close tolerance CNC precision machining. It provides precision-machined components to the electro-optical, semiconductor, electronic, aerospace, defense, and surgical instrument industries. The company, which is located at 9 Commerce Street, Branchburg, has fifty employees.
As a supplier of precision parts Triad Tool needed a universally accepted quality system to assure it customers that its products would meet their high standards. To accomplish this Triad worked with NJMEP, an approved service provider, to develop a workforce training program and prepare a grant application to fund it. Training Triad employees was crucial to implementing a quality assurance program and better manufacturing processes that would allow the company to remain competitive and grow.
NJMEP implemented the program to train employees in Aerospace Standard AS9100/ ISO9001, Lean manufacturing methodologies and technological skills. The training was largely focused on Triad’s front line workers to provide them with the skills that would allow them to make many improvements that would free up capacity and reduce costs thus helping to solidify the future of manufacturing in Branchburg. The improved performance and utilization of the quality management system, along with the expected gains through Lean techniques, would provide better quality and service to Triad’s customers.
As a result of the Customized Training Grant that funded its program, Triad was able to accomplish its objectives. The company achieved Quality System Certification in AS9100C/ ISO9001:2008 upgraded the skills of its workforce and streamlined its manufacturing processes, which improved its competitiveness and ability to gain new business.
When surveyed on the results of its training, Triad attributed increased sales of $100,000; was able to retain $150,000 in sales that would have been lost and realized a cost savings of $75,000 to the program.
