Friday, October 7th, 2016 marked the fifth annual National Manufacturing Day! The celebration was designed to expand knowledge about and improve the general public’s perception of manufacturing careers and the industry’s value to the economy.
Recap: Hundreds Attend NJMEP’s Annual “Made in New Jersey” Event
Hundreds of manufacturers, business and community leaders, students, and educators attended NJMEP’s annual event in celebration of National Manufacturing Day. The event was held at The Palace at Somerset from 7:30am to 2:00pm.
Welcome & Opening Remarks
John W. Kennedy, CEO of NJMEP, and Frank Robinson, Vice President of Government Affairs at NJBIA, welcomed the crowd to the annual “Made in New Jersey” event. They discussed the importance of the industry to New Jersey’s economy and proclaimed that manufacturing is “alive and well” in the Garden State.
Congressman Leonard Lance discussed the importance of bipartisan legislative support for manufacturing in New Jersey.
Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno highlighted the incredible and diverse careers offered in manufacturing and the future of the industry.
Attendees participated in two breakout sessions led by industry leaders. Sessions were held on critical topics for manufacturers including innovation, recruiting, workforce development, supply chain development, and more.
Participants had the chance to network with attendees and vendors to pursue new business opportunities and partnerships.

Made in New Jersey Honor Roll for Manufacturing & STEM
During the event, public and private servants were recognized as relentless supporters of New Jersey’s manufacturing community. Nominations were made by manufacturing & STEM firms, expert resources, and NJMEP & NJBIA staff members. Final selections were made by an industry panel.
NJMEP joined forces with the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey (CIANJ) and Employment Horizons for their second annual food drive. The food drive culminated at the annual “Made in New Jersey” event and attendees brought non-perishable food items to the event. All the collected foods were donated to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey as part of a special Manufacturing Cares project.
Events Held During the Month of October
The fifth annual National Manufacturing Day was held on Friday, October 7th. However, organizations celebrated manufacturing throughout October by opening their doors to students, parents, educators, media members and the general public to experience what modern manufacturing is all about.
