M1: Foundation Course Certified Logistics Associate (CLA)
Learning Techniques
Introduction of MSSC, learning and study techniques necessary for success in MSSC certification course
Global Supply Chain Logistics
Introduction to supply chains worldwide in various industries and best practices. Gain understanding of
how front-line logistics workers impact and are impacted by global SC and how the logistics life cycle
affects company viability/profitability. Overview of various transportation mode options.
Logistics Environment
Consider the physical layout of warehouses and distribution centers, the security requirements to/from
DCs and throughout the global SC. Learn the environmental impact of logistics activities.
Communication Skills
Techniques for effective verbal communication, including giving/ receiving feedback and listening
Computer Systems, Software & Technology
Demonstrates effective use of computer systems and software applications (i.e., internet browser, email,
word processing, spreadsheet, presentation) to fulfill roles and responsibilities. Demonstrate an
understanding of common software systems (e.g., Order Management System, Warehouse Management
System, e-commerce, etc.) used in a logistics operation
Work Communications
Techniques for clear, effective oral and written communications; including notes, telephone, email and
other appropriate business communication methods. Facilitate communication of tasks between shifts
regarding work that remains to be completed or shift problems/issues. Effectively communicate between
internal and external customers.
Quality Control Principles
Quality system elements, definition of quality, ISO 9000 standard, types of quality management systems,
PDCA cycle, continuous improvement concepts, audits, inspections
Teamwork and Good Workplace Conduct
Techniques for building successful front-line teams, consensus decision making, idea generation,
customer service concepts. What is required of all employees in the logistics workplace and what skills
make good teammates.
Safety Principles
Agencies that regulate safety, internal safety groups, emergency procedures, perform a job safety
analysis, workplace behavior, and safety inspections. Fire safety guidelines, use of fire extinguishers,
basic first aid and incidence reporting. Learn types, applications and use of personal protective
equipment for ears, eyes, body, face, hand, foot and respiratory. Housekeeping safety, ergonomics,
platform and various material handling safety,
Material Handling Equipment
Understand different types and applications of material handling equipment from hand trucks and dollies
to forklifts and tractors to conveyors, packaging equipment, etc.
Safe Material Handling & Equipment Operation
Emphasis on the safe handling, maintenance and operation of material handling equipment. Apply safe
lifting/carrying procedures. Identify and comply with safety markings on packages, containers and
cargoes. Identify, monitor and report work hazards, out-of-compliance conditions and other concerns.
This is a prerequisite for the Certified Logistics Technician certification."
