A Partnership between CIANJ & NJMEP, New Jersey Manufacturers & Employment Horizons
NJMEP and the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey (CIANJ) are launching their fourth annual food drive this winter season. All the collected foods will be donated to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey as part of a special Manufacturing Cares project. This year, Employment Horizons is also participating in the food drive.
The three organizations are working together to rally manufacturers and the community at large to donate non-perishable food items at the organizations’ workshops, roundtables, and additional events throughout the summer and fall.
The food drive will culminate at the annual “Made in New Jersey” event in celebration of National Manufacturing Day (recap of 2019 here) on Friday, October 4th.
Marked bins will be available at all CIANJ, Employment Horizons and NJMEP events to collect the goods.
Donations are also accepted online at a virtual food drive set up by the Community Foodbank. Click this link to donate
Contributors can make donations on the site and see what kinds of food their donations will buy.
Additionally, The John S. Watson Institute for Public Policy has built a database of sites that offer free summer meals in New Jersey Urban Mayors Association member cities. For the full database, follow this link, and search for USDA funded free summer meals.
NJMEP Essential Manufacturing’ Car Magnets
The Team Eagle Foundation’s LEDR Program works closely together with NJMEP’s ‘Manufacturing Cares’ efforts.
LEDR is a Young Adult Strategic Mentoring program that begins with a week-long camp. The focus is exposure to careers, educational options, and personal growth. Over the past 8-years we have ‘graduated’ 330 young adults from every County in New Jersey. Many have returned to volunteer with LEDR or by developing Community-Based Service Projects.
Due to COVID-19…this year’s LEDR Program is cancelled, but plans are being developed to evolved into ‘LEDR-Pathways’ that is looking to include:
- Experience MFG & STEM – Summer Jobs Program
- ‘Reverse Interview’ events
- Pre-Apprenticeship Opportunities
- Cardboard Canoe Competitions (yes, that’s what I said…)
Each one of these 330 individuals attended the LEDR Camp at no-cost – and during the past 8-years an additional $150,000 worth of Scholarships and Grants have come from NJMEP & Team Eagle Foundation – mainly through funds raised from the ‘Jersey Guys’ Golf Outing.
There has been an overwhelming response of LEDR Camp Alumni that want to be part of the ‘Survive & Thrive’ efforts going on throughout the Manufacturing Industry to combat Coronavirus and other Fall-Out.
They came together to purchase 2,000 ‘Made in NJ – Essential Manufacturing’ Car Magnets.
Special Thanks to 2 of our many excellent NJ printers for donating their skills and reducing prices – The Printer’s Place of Montclair & Stuyvesant Press of Irvington!
All you need to do to get one of these Magnets mailed to you is…
Give a minimum of $10 to (either) the MFG Cares Annual Food Drive or any other Food Bank or Soup Kitchen and help feed the over 1 million of our New Jersey Neighbors during this tough time.
Kenny Schwemmer (LEDR Class of 2013) also reminds us that many of those hungry are children.
Email a copy of your donation receipt to email@example.com with your mailing address and the LEDR Alumni will send you a ‘Made in NJ – Essential Manufacturing Car Magnet’.
There are many heroes that are coming forth throughout this crisis. This is one way that each of us can recognize our Critical MFG/STEM/TLD Sectors…while helping to feed those in need.
