NJ Recycled Content Law & Manufacturers – Critical Information, Details, and Next Steps

On January 18th, 2022 the NJ Recycled Content Law was signed which intends to stimulate recycling markets by requiring manufacturers to meet a minimum recycled content standard for regulated containers and packaging products sold or offered for sale in the State.

The law requires Manufacturers to register annually with the Department of Environmental Protection and also to register their “covered products”. Before December 31, 2025 Manufacturers must not only register for calendar year 2025 but they must also submit their 2024 compliance status.

Given that this is the first compliance reporting since the law became effective in 2022, NJMEP turned to our partners Porzio, Bromberg & Newman to clarify identify responsibilities and obligations under the law.
